About the Company – Principals: Nigel Adam & Katherine McMillan
Nigel Adam is a principal and co-founder of Compton. He is our editorial director, and brings our clients over thirty years of experience in journalism and finance.
Our clients use the white papers Nigel has written on their behalf to showcase their expertise and thought leadership. Topics have ranged from The Future of the Investment Management Industry, (for Casey Quirk), to Understanding Portable Alpha, (for Babson Capital Management).
He works closely with clients to develop ideas for white papers and articles adapted from the papers, which we can places in industry publications either as exclusive features or by-lined articles.
Prior to joining Compton, Nigel wrote books on finance for The Economist Intelligence Unit. Titles include Financial Services in the Virtual World, Building Tomorrow's Leading Retail Bank, Managing International Assets, and Regulating Global Financial Markets.
Nigel was U.S. bureau chief and then deputy editor of Euromoney magazine in London and also founding editor of Business magazine. He started his career in journalism as a reporter for Reuters, based in London, Paris and then Frankfurt. Before becoming a journalist, he was a commercial banker at Hill Samuel in London. Fluent in German and French, Nigel received a Masters degree from St. Andrews University in Scotland.
Katherine McMillan, principal and co-founder, plays a central role in formulating communications strategy for each of Compton 's clients. Over the past twenty years, she has worked with dozens of top U.S. and international money managers on communications programs ranging from new company launches, mergers, lift-outs and product launches to CEO departures.
Notable examples include advising Boston Partners from their launch in 1995 through to the sale of the company in 2005; handling the communications for Fiduciary Trust after its headquarters was destroyed on September 11 th; working with the re-branding campaign transforming David L. Babson to Babson Capital; and advising Standish, Ayer & Wood on the lead up to, announcement of, and sale to Mellon.
She has worked with the press throughout Europe and in Hong Kong, China, Tokyo and Australia. She maintains close contact with the most influential financial reporters in New York.
Katherine was vice president of corporate communications at Salomon Brothers in New York during the 80's and she was responsible for the firm's public relations and advertising in the United States, Europe and Japan. She started her public relations career at Burson-Marsteller and then worked at Adams and Rinehart (now Ogilvy). In 1987, she moved to London and worked for Kidder Peabody handling press activities throughout Europe.
Katherine graduated from St. Paul 's School and Harvard.
